The School Dental Service provides basic dental treatment for all primary school pupils. All primary school pupils can avail themselves to the services provided at their school dental clinics upon their parents signing a consent form.
The School Dental Service has a range of services to help the pupil maintain good oral health. These services include basic preventive services, curative treatment and referral services to pupils of all primary schools upon parental consent. Once consent is given in Primary 1, it is valid till the pupil completes his/her primary education. Dental therapists are the main providers of the services.

Services provided
- Preventive Services aimed at preventing dental problems like tooth decay and gum disease include:
- Regular check-ups
- Provision of fissure sealants to prevent tooth decay
- Advice on oral hygiene and diet
- Oral health education activities to promote oral health awareness and oral hygiene practices through chairside oral health education and classroom talks
- Curative Services aimed at treating dental problems like tooth decay and gum disease include:
- Scaling and polishing
- Fillings
- Extractions of primary teeth
- Root treatment of primary teeth
- Referral Services
Pupils requiring more complex work like X-ray, extraction of permanent teeth, dentures, root canal treatment for single rooted permanent teeth will be referred to a Zonal Centre or to the School Dental Centre located at the Health Promotion Board.
Pupils may also be referred to the National Dental Centre, Alexandra Hospital Dental Clinic, NUH Dental Centre, Tan Tock Seng Hospital Dental Clinic, Jurong Medical Dental Clinic and Changi General Hospital Dental Clinic for specialist care.
Charges
Dental Treatment is provided free at the school dental clinics and mobile dental clinics. Pupils requiring more complex work beyond the scope of the dental therapists are referred for treatment at the School Dental Centre in Health Promotion Board. If your child/ward has been referred to School Dental Centre, the following fees apply:

Singaporeans who seek treatment at School Dental Centre on their own will have to pay the concessionary rate i.e. 75% subsidy as follows:

All referrals to National Dental Centre/Hospital Dental Clinics are chargeable. There are no fixed dental fees as the patients are charged according to the type of treatment provided.

During the school term, the school dental clinic / mobile dental clinic is open from
- 8 am to 5.30 pm (Monday to Thursday)
- 8 am to 5.00 pm (Friday)
- Lunch break varies with each clinic
Some school dental clinics operate on a part-time basis due to low school population. You may wish to check with the school dental clinic on its opening days and hours.
During the school holiday(s), the clinic will remain open unless the clinic staff is out of office. All school dental clinics operate on a buddy system and there are 4 zonal centres serving as referral centres in the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western areas. In case of emergency, you can contact the buddy or zonal clinic for treatment and advice if the school dental clinic is closed. Details are available from the staff-in-charge of your child's/ward's school dental clinic or from the school general office.
