How do you know if your child's asthma is controlled?

In general, your child’s asthma is under control if :

  • there are no night-time symptoms like cough or wheeze
  • there are no symptoms on waking or during the day
  • your child is able to participate in normal physical activities without getting asthma symptoms

To monitor your child’s asthma regularly and to know if it is controlled use the Childhood Asthma Control Test (ACT). This Test has been developed to help your doctor determine if your child’s asthma treatment plan is effective.

To keep your child’s asthma under control, ask your doctor for a  Written Asthma Action Plan (WAAP)  for your child.
