About half of the children with very mild
and infrequent symptoms appear to outgrow asthma with time. For most
of the other children with asthma, their airways can handle inflammation
and irritants more effectively as they grow older and the frequency
of attacks and the severity of symptoms may get less.
Some of them may also find that asthma recurs with varying severity
from their twenties onwards. It is difficult to predict accurately whether
a child will have fewer asthma attacks as they grow up.
However, it is important to understand that effective treatment will reduce asthma symptoms, improve quality of life and ensure good health outcomes.
