High blood glucose (Hyperglycaemia)

Occurs when the blood glucose level is too high (more than 15mmol/L).

This happens when your body does not have enough insulin, when you:

forget to take your medicine or insulin or not taking enough of it
eat too much or eat the wrong types of food
are sick, injured or stressed

You may experience:

frequent urination which may even disturb your sleep
increased thirst
tiredness and confusion
nausea and vomiting
problems with vision

What you must do

Consult your doctor as soon as possible for treatment.

If you experience:

dry mouth and skin
fast breathing
drowsiness
loss of consciousness
your family member or caregiver must call an ambulance immediately as this would mean more urgent treatment is necessary.
