Real Life Stories

Mr Rahmat Bin Mohd Yunos, 56, amputee
Medication: Oral diabetic medication

There was a known history of diabetes on Mr Rahmat's mother's side of the family and his sister also developed the disease.

At the age of 40 and overweight, Mr Rahmat himself started to develop diabetes symptoms. Although he was aware of his condition and formally diagnosed by a doctor, the stress of his job caused him to neglect his health. Because he did not keep his condition under control, complications soon set in. His leg became infected as a result of his diabetes mismanagement and ultimately had to be amputated.

Today Mr Rahmat is looked after by his wife, who is very supportive of him, and acts as his main caregiver.
