What must I do before going for screening?
|
| |
|
You should make an appointment with the GP clinic of your choice for a health screening and bring the invitation letter with you (if you have received it).
You would also need to: - Fast for about 8 - 10 hours before your health screening appointment - this means no food or drink (other than plain water). This ensures accuracy of your blood test results for glucose, cholesterol & triglycerides.
- If you are on medication, please continue to take your medication after the screening. If you are unsure, you should check with your doctor.
- If you are unwell, please reschedule your appointment as illness and medications (e.g. antibiotics) may affect your screening results.
If you wish to have a Pap smear done, you would also need to remember the following: - Avoid sexual intercourse 48 hours before the test
- Do not use spermicides, vaginal creams, lubricant jellies, vaginal medications or tampons 48 hours before the test
- Wear a two piece outfit as you will need to undress from the waist down

Does eating fast food result in obesity?
|
| |
|
Weight gain occurs when we consume more calories than our body requires. A typical meal from a fast food restaurant made of a burger, fries and a soft drink can provide up to half of the caloric need of an average person. So the frequent consumption of fast food (or any high-calorie meals), without effort to maintain one's calorie balance, may increase the risk of overweight and obesity.

Are people overweight due to their genes? And can they still get to lose weight?
|
| |
|
Genetic factors can increase the chances of being overweight. However it is important to note that genes are not the only factor that influences weight. Most modern day overweight is likely due to sendentary lifestyle and excessive caloric intake. It is still possible to lose weight through healthy eating and leading an active lifestyle.
