STDs Staying Away From STDs We've deliberately kept this section plain and graphic-free. This is because this section talks about something extremely serious, and we want to have your full attention. You've probably heard a lot about sexually-transmitted diseases, or STDs for short. These are NOT FUN to have, and we'd advise you to stay FAR AWAY from situations or people that could cause you to contract them. The best way to avoid STDs is to practice abstinence (remember? The cool word that means not having sex until you're married?). Think about it : just like you can't fall down if you don't get up and walk, you can't contract a sexually-transmitted disease if you don't have sex! Sexual promiscuity, also known as 'casual sex' or 'sleeping around' never leads to a trusting, loving and lasting relationship. If you get a reputation for being 'loose' or 'sexually promiscuous', people will lose their respect for you. And deep down, you'll also love yourself less. Sex lasts only a few minutes. Its unwanted consequences can last a lifetime. In some cases, they are fatal. Read more about STDs (warning : it's chim and technical - but it'll benefit you!). ![]() HIV You're sure to have heard a lot about HIV or AIDS. It's a frightening disease, and you should do all you can make sure you don't contract it. It's not a joking or laughing matter - and NEVER think it won't happen to YOU. Like we said a million times before, just ABSTAIN FROM SEX UNTIL MARRIAGE. What's so difficult about that? If you're having sex with your partner, you can NEVER tell FOR SURE if he or she is 'clean'. If you don't have the self-control to abstain from sex until marriage, PRACTISE SAFE SEX every single time you have sex. Multiple sex partners and having sex with strangers is OUT OF THE QUESTION. Remember - there's NO WAY you can tell if anyone is infected. If you think someone you know is infected, PROTECT YOURSELF - DON'T share toothbrushes, razors, or other implements - these could be contaminated. Be cautious of or even avoid activities such as acupuncture, tattooing, and ear piercing, where needles or similar instruments may be used repeatedly to pierce skin / come into contact with blood / body fluids. These procedures are safe ONLY IF proper sterilisation methods or disposable needles are used. Before undergoing the procedure, ask what precautions are being taken. For more details: |
