QuitLine offers advice and information on how to quit smoking

Quitline

QuitLine operating hours:

Mon to Fri : 8.30am to 5.00pm
Sat : 8.30am to 1.00pm

QuitLine (1800 438 2000) is a toll-free confidential telephone service that provides smokers and their loved ones with advice on how to quit smoking and how to help someone quit.

So what actually happens when you call QuitLine?
The Quit Adviser (healthcare professionals) at QuitLine would first work with you to establish your level of dependence on cigarettes and help you identify your personal reasons for quitting smoking.

If you are ready to proceed to quit smoking, your Quit Adviser would then work with you to identify the factors in your life that trigger your smoking urge, help you set a quit date, select a quitting method of preference (such as the cold turkey or gradually decreasing method) and work out effective coping strategies to overcome withdrawal symptoms. Your Quit Adviser also offers advice on Nicotine Replacement Therapy.

Each telephone therapy session usually last about 20 minutes.

At your request, scheduled telephone call will be provided throughout your quitting process. These follow-up calls help you work out any difficulties you face during your quit process and offer continuous motivation and moral support.

QuitLine can also refer callers to other more intensive quit services available at all 16 polyclinics and at various hospitals and non-government organisations. Should the caller require assistance for other problems, QuitLine would suggest other hotlines to call for help.
