
1. There are two categories in this year’s competition.
i) The Open category is open to all citizens and permanent residents of Singapore, except for employees of the Health Promotion Board (HPB), Photoi, HardwareZone, and the panels of judges from the Photographic Society of Singapore.
ii) The Student Category is open to all citizens and permanent residents of Singapore who are currently pursuing a full-time course of study at a primary school, secondary school, Junior College or ITE. Citizens and permanent residents who are pursuing their first full-time diploma or Bachelor’s Degree at any of the local polytechnics or universities can also take part in the Student category.
2. Singaporeans practising healthy living habits in their everyday lives should be the main subject of the photo.
The aim of this competition is to encourage Singaporeans to think about what a healthy lifestyle entails. There are four themes for this year’s competition, participants can enter photographs featuring any of these four themes:
i) Nutrition
ii) Cope with Stress
iii) Exercise and Fitness
iv) Quit Smoking
3. Entry Requirements
i) Entries must be submitted to hpb_comms@hpb.gov.sg, in softcopy low-resolution format, based on a resolution of at least 800x600 pixels image size and in JPEG format. No other forms of submission will be accepted.
ii) Participants whose entry wins a prize in the competition will be required to submit the original high-resolution copy of the entry. It must be at least 1800 x 1200 pixels in image size, and in JPEG format.
iii) Each participant may submit a maximum of 10 entries to the competition. Each participant, however, may only be awarded one prize in this competition.
iv) In their email to HPB, each participant must attach the completed application form with their contest entries. The official application form is downloadable from the official contest website. Entries with incomplete application forms shall be rejected.
v) Works shall be original and unpublished. The participant must be the original author and sole owner of all his or her photo entries.
vi) All particpants must ensure that permission has been obtained from their models (if any are featured in their photographs) to allow their photos to be used by HPB according to Section 7 of the Rules & Regulations.
vii) Minimal digital manipulation (e.g. enhancement of colour and contrast of entered works is allowed)
viii) Images scanned from film and slides are allowed.
ix) HPB reserves the right to disqualify any re-used entry that has already been awarded prizes in other photographic competitions or any entries that does not adhere to the rules, regulations, and entry requirements of this competition.
x) The closing date for all entries is on 30 September 2005, 12 noon, Singapore Time.. All entries received after the deadline will not be accepted.
4. Should his or her entry win a prize in this competition, the participant shall grant HPB, the sole ownership and copyright to the winning photo. HPB shall hold an exclusive, perpetual licence and rights to use, reproduce and prepare derivative works of the winning work for the purposes of displaying the work in exhibitions, HPB’s marketing and health education collaterals , all in printed and/or electronic form, without payment of any fee.
5. Participants who do not win a prize in this competition shall grant HPB a non-exclusive perpetual licence and rights to use, reproduce, and prepare derivative works of the low-resolution image submitted, for the purposes of displaying the work in exhibitions, HPB’s marketing and health education collaterals, all in printed and/or electronic form, without payment of any fee. The copyright of the photo shall, however, still belong to the participant, and he or she is free to use the photo for his or her own purposes.
6. HPB will credit photographers whose non-winning pictures from this competition are used in its marketing and health education collaterals, either on the collateral or by means of a letter of
acknowledgement to the photographer.
7. Each participant shall jointly and severally, defend, indemnify and hold harmless Health Promotion Board and its associates from and against any claim, demand or action by a third party, to the extent that it is based on a claim that the entered work violates, infringes or misappropriates any copyright and/or intellectual property rights of such third party. Without limitation, such indemnitors shall pay all cost and expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees and related costs of litigation) suffered or incurred by indemnitees in connection with such claim, demand or action.
8. HPB reserves the right to change or replace prizes with another of equal or greater value should the featured prize(s) become unavailable. Prizes are not exchangeable for cash. Prizes not collected after 30 November 2005 will be donated to charity.
9. All winners will be notified by 15 October 2005 . The judges' decision is final and no correspondence shall be entertained.
10. Winning entries will be featured on the HPB website.
11. Submission of entries signifies the acceptance of the rules and regulations of the competition.
