QuitLine is a confidential smoking cessation counselling service that provides smokers and their loved ones with advice on how to quit smoking and how to help someone quit.
So what actually happens when you contact QuitLine?
The Quit Consultant at QuitLine would first work with you to establish your level of dependence on cigarettes and help you identify your personal reasons for quitting smoking.
If you are ready to proceed to quit smoking, your Quit Consultant would then work with you to:
- Identify the factors in your life that trigger your smoking urge.
- Help you set a quit date.
- Select a quitting method of preference such as the cold turkey or gradually decreasing method.
- Work out effective coping strategies to overcome withdrawal symptoms.
Our Quit Consultant also offers advice on Nicotine Replacement Therapy.
At your request, scheduled follow-up will be provided throughout your quitting process. This will help you work out any difficulties you face during your quit process and offer continuous motivation and moral support.
QuitLine can also refer users to other quit services available at polyclinics and at various hospitals and non-government organisations. Should the users require assistance for other matters, QuitLine would provide the relevant hotline numbers for user to call for help.
