The LOVEs of My Life... How They Have Influenced Me
Generally I believe in having fun while exercising. I like to engage in a variety of activities as this increases my motivation and joy of keeping fit.

I run 2- 3 times a week and would occasionally do long distance running. Short distance running builds up my speed while long distance running helps me to build up endurance.
Sometimes I would play basketball with my friends and I find this a very good team-building sport.
I enjoy reading. One particular book that inspires me is “Fish! A Remarkable Way to Boost Morale and Improve Results” by Steven C Lundin et. al.
This book is based on real-life experience of the Pike Fish Market stallholders in Seattle. It has shown me the importance of a positive attitude to work, and how it can help me to enjoy my work. It also inspires me to make HPB a passion- and fun-filled work place. I believe this will motivate all in the HPB team as well as raise their morale.
Perhaps a working trip could be organised to this Pike Fish Market, for our colleagues in HPB, to learn firsthand from these stallholders how to take pride in their work and be passionate about it. This can be in the form of an incentive trip for staff members who have fulfilled all their KPIs.
Occasionally I will catch a movie. The movie that has made a great impact on me is Apollo 13.
- It has shown me the importance of teamwork (as shown in the cooperation between the control centre team on the ground and the astronaut team in space)
- The quote “Gentlemen, this will be our finest hour” (made in this show by the Head of the Control Centre) has made a deep impression on me as it is indeed in adversity that a man can put his best foot forward.
Leading HPB…
An organisation needs to be led by a good team of leaders. I believe in leading by example, not just coming up with high sounding vision and mission statements, but also to walk the talk.

Teamwork is also crucial as no individual will be able to come up with all the good ideas and all the necessary skills and competencies to do a job well.
My Initial Days in HPB…
It has been an enriching experience for me and I am glad to be a member of the team. I would strive to have a good grasp of the work processes and functions of the various divisions and departments making up HPB. The most immediate important task is the strategic planning exercise. This will chart the strategic directions for HPB and bring HPB to its next level of development in our health promotion efforts.
What Drives Me…
Seeing the fruits of my labour, the satisfaction of the results from the hard work put in.
Pearls of Wisdom for HPB
Every one of us can make a difference to HPB in our own way. No challenge is too big and no contribution is too small.
