Nurses Day

The Voice of the Nurse is Heard

In recognition of Nurses Day which falls on 1 August 2005, Voices Columnist Sherlyn asks HPB’s very own nurses to share about why they chose nursing as their profession, their aspirations, interesting stories in their line of work, a patient who made them proud to be a caregiver or a simple message for their fellow colleagues. These are their stories.

I have my mother to thank for encouraging me to join nursing. In my years of practice, I firmly believe in taking the holistic approach in patient care. With emerging nursing trends, I find myself constantly challenged to apply the best practices in nursing care.

I would like to thank my department for who I am today and I sincerely wish all nurses, A Happy Nurses Day!

Enrolled Nurse, Specialist Clinic, Student Health Centre

I’ve had my fair share of wonderful and frustrating moments as a nurse but the beautiful experiences were the ones i hold most dearly. Helping critically-ill patients recover from their illnesses always made me feel proud of my profession.

Presently I’m enjoying the experiences of working with school children and I also learn that besides good clinical skills, communication skills are equally important.

I look forward to future challenges and strive to maintain a positive attitude always.
