(Sharifa Norliza, NHLP, AHP)

View of Mount Kinabalu from Kinabalu Park (approx. 1km above sea level). The highest point called Low’s Peak at 4095.2m above sea level can be seen.

The journey from Timpohon Gate to Laban Rata Resthouse (in the above picture - 3272.7m above sea level) is 6 km. There were 7 shelters (Kandis, Ubah, Lowii, Mempening, Layang-layang, Villosa, Paka Cave Shelter) along the way where we stopped briefly to refuel and refresh ourselves. The scenery along the tracks was amazing, and we spotted the exotic monkey cup (pitcher plant).

Whistler, Canada
(Jessica Goh, SDS, SHS)
Whistler, which is less than two-hour drive from Vancouver, is a world famous ski resort. It will be hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics. Jessica was there in December last year.

Guess what is under my feet? Frozen river!!!

Winter wonderland, behind Jessica and her friends is the shopping belt of Whistler in the evening.
Hokkaido, Japan
(Teo Leng Leng, SDS, SHS)
It was winter and the weather was certainly an experience for me who have not seen or felt so much snow before. The 7 days’ itinerary included visits to the Salmon Museum and the Sapporo Brewery. We also visited the famous Shiraoi Ainu Village for a glimpse into the village’s rich history that gave it a unique character distinct from the other regions in Hokkaido.

At the Fresh Seafood Market in Hokkaido, we were treated to a feast of Long Legged Crab which is not easily available in Singapore.

The Pacific Ocean is just outside the Fresh Seafood Market!
Leavenworth, Seattle, USA
(Melissa Lee, HDM, R&IM)

Leavenworth is a beautiful small town reminiscent of a European village centrally located at the foot of the Cascade Mountains.
Can you see the snowy mountain behind me?

Kids enjoying themselves by their sleighs… and you get to see man-built snow walls around in the Bavarian Village too!

My mum and me… turning cold turkeys! :p

This is the St. Sophia Museum in Turkey which served 916 years as a church and 481 years as a mosque before it is turned into a museum in 1935. Isn’t this amazing?!
