Bowling Stars

What a great time it has been for us, what with the HPB Bowling Team scoring a whopping 1589 points in the Public Service Star Games Bowling Competition! They ranked among the top 20 teams!

This May, the competition was held at the new CSC Clubhouse at Bukit Batok. The participants competed on a ministry level within the Public Sector.

I’m much honoured to be tasked to interview the 5 ladies.

Ladies' team

From left to right: Beatrice, Kamaliah, Ann Sim, Leng Leng, Siew Nah

Lynn: Is this the first time you gals played as a team?

Team: All of us except Siew Nah joined HPB Bowling team for about 3 to 4 years. We have been playing as team and participated in bowling competitions prior to this competition. Siew Nah, on the other hand, has joined HPB recently, and was a reserve for this competition. Nevertheless, she also bowled actively when she was in her previous organisation.

Lynn: How did your team prepare for the finals?

Team: Practices and more practices!

Lynn: How did you gals motivate and boost each other’s morale during the game?

Team: “Never mind, let’s try our best” This was the spirit that we had. We continued to cheer for each other, kept reminding each other to stay cool and be focused (although, we ourselves felt nervous at times). As the Chinese saying goes ”明天会更好” ( Translation: “Tomorrow will be a better day.”

Lynn: How did you feel when the team made it to the finals? Any 3 words to describe your feelings?

Team: Hip-Hip-Hooray! …… Yes, we did it! ..... Happy and proud….. Overjoyed, thrilled and satisfied….. Finally we made it…. Ecstatic for our achievement!

Lynn: How did you rate the performance of your team?

Team: We felt that we did pretty well but there is definitely still room for improvement. We have improved a lot over the years with our regular training. Sometimes, it depends on ‘form’ and some ‘lady luck’ too.

Lynn: Any “thank-you” words or learning points that you would like to share with the rest of HPB Staff?

Team: Thank you for all the moral support that HPBians have given us. Bowling is a fun game. However, to do well in a competition, it is a combination of consistency (built up through intensive practices), mental and physical form plus some luck. We will give our best shot in the upcoming tournament. Remember, there’s always a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, so look ahead!!!

3 Cheers for The Ladies Once Again….. Hip Hip Hurray x3
