Summer holidays

What We Did This Summer

Here are some summer holiday photos from HPBians!

Cheong-Lim Lee Yee

Lee Yee in Bath

We are at the ancient Roman Bath.  The hot spring pool behind us contains untreated water which we are not supposed to even touch.  However, at the end of the visit, we each get a glass of the treated water which is supposed to have healing power.  Not sure about that, but the water tastes funny!

Lee Yee and family with houses

At Bath, the other landmark is the Geogian style houses.  You can see a roll of these behind us.  Unfortunately we don't have a 360 degree camera, otherwise you will see the houses are actually in a circular layout.

Vanessa Tan

Vanessa in Bristol
I visited my university in Bristol, England (near Bath), and climbed the Clifton Suspension Bridge. In 1885, a young lady attempted to kill herself by jumping off this 76m tall structure. However, her huge petticoats ensured that she wafted safely to the ground!

Fraser’s Hill was the venue of the annual International Bird Race from 24 – 25 Jun 2006 and I was there!

Veronica
For birdwatchers, Fraser’s Hill is a haven for more than 260 species of birds, local and migratory ones. In the annual bird race, participants outdo each other to sight, identify and record the most number of species registered in the official checklist. Among the exotic birds found are the mountain imperial pigeon, silver-eared mesia, mountain tailorbird, rhinoceros hornbill, longtailed sibia and chestnut capped laughing-thrush.

Catherine traveled to Midland, Canada (150 km north of Toronto) to visit The Martyr’s Shrine. This is a sacred ground where people come to pray & be healed by touching the lives of the Canadian Martyrs.

The animal known as ‘Yak’. In the background is the Namtso lake, meaning Sky Lake. It is a salt water lake and is located at an altitude of 4718m above sea level.
