HPB’s adopted charity, Yong-en Care Centre organised a 3G (3-Generations) Carnival as part of their 10th Anniversary Celebrations on Saturday, 25 November 2006 at Kreta Ayer Square.

Our volunteers were there as early as 10 am to escort the elderly from their flats to the carnival where they played games and enjoyed stage performances.

Here are some quotes from our volunteers:

“This event was not only fun and enjoyable, but enriched my life immensely as I learnt from the resilience of the elderly folks.

The support Yong-En gives to the elderly is crucial in our ongoing challenge to fulfil a basic human need, the need to feel loved and cared for. The strength of this organization rests in the hands of its volunteers.
Without them, their mission cannot be fulfilled. I am grateful to be able to part take in a very small part of this mission, because above all, people need love.”
- Choo Lin

“It was wonderful to see a whole host of volunteers, but particularly heartening to see the many young cheerful faces doing their best to ensure that the elderly at the carnival had an enjoyable time.
It was also a reminder to me of the vital role that many of these elderly have played in nation-building, enabling us as the generations following them, to have a privileged head-start in life. The enduring message of 3-G is that we must do our part to foster these valuable inter-relationships each of us have been blessed with at home, in our extended families, and in the wider community.”
- Chan Mei Fen

“It was a good experience and I enjoyed myself at the carnival. All 3 generations – children, adult and the elderly, enjoyed the stage performances - orchestra, singing, balloon- and magic shows. There were games, colour painting, souvenirs and food stalls at reasonable prices.”
- Cheryl Choy

“I enjoyed myself tremendously at the event. It was a good opportunity to interact with the elderly of Yong-En, and I think they had fun checking out the stalls and watching the stage performances! The highlight for me was when the group of elderly ladies presented a bouquet and presents to the guest of honour, Dr Lily Neo. It was inspiring to see how sprightly and enthusiastic they were!”
