Setting “Records” for Health
"Quick, Quick, It’s coming!” chaotic cries reverberated through the normally serene Clementi Stadium one Monday afternoon in March. It was not the cries of panic-stricken survivors being hunted by dangerous predators, but rather excited cheers of HPB staff donned in exercise attire creating a bit of history. 2 new Singapore record was set – the longest half-squat wave and the longest star jump wave
This was a scene from HPB's annual Fitness Assessment, held on 12 Mar 2007 at the Clementi Stadium. Despite the hot afternoon sun, the energised looks on the sweat-drenched faces of HPB's management and staff showed that healthy living can be fun, whether we practise this alone or in groups.
The record creating event came after staff had earlier completed their 2.4 km run or 2 km walk to measure their fitness level. Led by CEO, Mr Lam Pin Woon, more than 200 staff completed the walk and run with much gusto and cheers from their peers. The excitement did not end with the completion of the event; staff was abuzz with their “3 seconds” of fame as the event was covered extensively in the media including Channelnewsasia, The Strait Times and Suria.
It was indeed a fun-filled and memorable Fitness Assessment. Till our next Fitness Assessment, stay fit and healthy!
