Don’t worry, be happy
Dear Readers
September is the month of the National Healthy Lifestyle campaign. Since 1992, the last 15 years, we have been focusing on exercising, eating healthily and not smoking.
Now more people are exercising, improving their diet and the rate of smoking has not gone up. This year’s NHLC launched on Saturday, 22 September at the Botanic Gardens by PM Lee Hsien Loong has moved away from its usual focus. Its theme this year is “Healthy Mind, Happy Life”. It encourages Singaporeans like you and me to take care of our mental well-being and “be positive about life.” It is easy for us to feel stressed due to our work-stress and fast paced lifestyle. We should rethink our "values" on what is important for us to lead a happy life and if it is limited to material things.
So don’t to be worked up by happenings at work or at home. Acknowledge and accept that’s the way the world is.
That’s for mental well-being, now coming back to our other pillars of a healthy lifestyle. Exercise is also important for heart health as well as for mental health. Our Fitness Assessment is coming up on 26 October, 3.15 pm at the garden at Jurong Lake. Let’s all don our fitness attire and head out there. Those who won’t be taking part in the fitness test, do come and cheer us on!
In this issue, we are featuring HPBians and the cool gadgets they own, the lessons we learn from Mr Liu Thai Ker’s talk, report on the launch of the National Healthy Lifestyle campaign, an update from Grace Koh, our scholar in New Zealand and happenings in and around HPB.
In addition, we have our regular features on food review at Tiong Bahru Food Centre, recipes, our pet companions and a quiz to win concert tickets to “A-Mei World Tour” on 8 November 2007 at the Indoor Stadium.
Voices Reloaded would like to take this opportunity to wish our Muslim and Hindu colleagues “Selamat Hari Raya and Happy Deepavali”
Happy Reading!
