Margaret River and Albany
Western Australia is a good place to go for a drive-away holiday. It is easy driving and the roads are not bad. Margaret River is about 250 km from Perth and you will be there in 3 hrs or so. From Margaret River, the next major destination is Albany. It will take you another 4 hours to reach Albany. There are many natural places to see in and around Albany. There are modern wind mills generating electricity for the town. They are huge, tall structures and altogether there were 12. The other scenic places to go is to see the "Gap" & "Natural Bridge," "Blowholes" & "Whale World."
- Plan to spend a few days in Perth first before setting off on your journey southwards.
- Book your accommodations more than one month ahead if it is the peak season e.g. summer.
- Book it through the internet. There is an abundance of accommodations. You can compare prices too.
- Hire your car also through the internet. Bayswater is the cheapest, however, they only have 1800cc Toyota Ascent (hatchback and sedan) at A$38/day, definitely, not for a big family.
- Road maps are easily available from the tourist information centre. So get one before you leave.
- Ensure you have sufficient rest and full breakfast before you set out on your journey.
- Keep the driver awake by talking to him/her.
