Jia Xiang Sarawak Kuching Kolo Mee, 271 New Bridge Road

kolomee

I have always wanted to try the Sarawak Kolo mee since it opened. It is a 10 minute walk from HPB along New Bridge Road.
We sampled the Kolo Mee and the Curry Mee. They also have fish soup, wantan soup, fillet fish kolo mee and side dishes like vegetables with abalone or mushroom and fried wantan on the menu.

Verdict – Average only. The Kolo mee was served with char siew, minced pork and chye sim. The small bowl of soup included 2 prawns and 2 wantan. The noodles are too soft (reminds me of instant noodles). I prefer the different local varieties of kolo (wantan) noodles. Our noodles are usually firmer and chewy and our chilli sauce fiery hot like Eng’s Wantan noodles in Dunman Food Centre. The curry noodles were not any better, the gravy was too thick and rich.

Open daily, the prices are steep, $6 for the kolo mee and $6 for the curry mee.

Fishermen’s Wharf 27/29 New Bridge Road. Open daily

fisher

Fishermen’s Wharf is a great place to have a slow unhurried lunch. It is not fully packed at lunch and surprisingly, though not air conditioned, it was not warm.
There is a variety of different fish fillet; cod, sole, snow, halibut, salmon, dory, monk fish. There are also oysters and calamari, fish burgers, prawn fritters. If you like meat, they also have chicken fingers ( chicken fillet) and Danish meatballs. For dessert you can choose and mix your ice cream and there are several types of coffee too.

Price ranges from $6.50 for a simple plate of fish & chips to $18.50 for monk fish fillet. You can opt for the set lunch at $9.50 which was Atlantic halibut served with fries and coleslaw.

Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh Eating House. 593 Havelock Road #01-02. Open daily.

bakutteh

If you are hungry after midnight and want something hot and soupy, try this bak kut teh soup. My husband and I had bak kut teh and kidney soup with taupok, mui chye and rice. With drinks, supper cost $20, certainly not inexpensive. The bak kut teh and kidney soup cost $6 a bowl.
