First-Aid Procedures > Food Poisoning

What causes food poisoning?
Badly stored (expired) food produces bacteria and toxins. A child's stomach can be very sensitive to these harmful toxins. These poison toxins can often cause inflammation of the gut.

SYMPTOMS OF FOOD POISONING:
Abdominal cramps are the most common symptoms of food poisoning. Other symptoms are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dehydration, chills and fever.

FIRST AID FOR FOOD POISONING:

  1. Hydrating the child with plenty of fluids allows toxins to be flushed from the body system.
  2. Give your child enough rest.
  3. Seek medical advice if the condition does not improve or if it worsens.
