First-Aid Procedures > Nosebleeds

The blood vessels on the septum (the firm tissue which divides the nose) can break fairly easily and bleed. The most common causes for a nosebleed are forceful sneezing, nose picking, blowing and infection.

FIRST AID FOR NOSEBLEED:

  1. Sit the child comfortably, with head tilted slightly forward.
  2. Allow the child to breathe through his or her mouth.
  3. Pinch the soft area of the nose (just below the bone part) for 10 minutes (time it carefully).
  4. Reassure the child.
