National Population Health Survey Matters

Who is invited for the survey?

For the period of July 2024 to June 2025, a sample of at least 16,000 households have been randomly selected and will be contacted for the NPHS. Selected households will receive an invitation letter from MOH-HPB with information on the NPHS and details on how to participate.

Within each of the selected households, one person will be randomly selected as a Reference Person. He or she must fulfil the following criteria:

  1. Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
  2. 18-79 years of age

All children aged 0-12, all youths aged 13 to 17 years and seniors aged 65 and above, who are related to the Reference Person and are a member of that household, will also be invited to participate in the survey.

What do I have to do for this survey?

(1) Household Interview

Reference persons and seniors will participate in a face-to-face interview, which would take approximately 30 to 45 minutes per respondent. For the face-to-face interviews involving children, parents / guardian will answer on their behalf and will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes per child.

Conducted at the respondent’s residence, the interviews will touch on topics ranging from existing health conditions, health-related lifestyle factors, to the use of health services.

Youths will self-complete the online survey which will take about 20 to 30 minutes. The questions include mental wellness and health-related lifestyle factors.

The appointed interviewers could take more than 1 visit to the household to complete the relevant interviews if required.

(2) Health Examination

Following the household interview, an invitation would be extended to the Reference Person and youths aged 13 to 17 years to participate in a health examination at one of our appointed clinics.

The Reference Person and youth will then be measured for his/her height and weight, waist and hip circumference, and blood pressure levels, as part of the health examination. Blood and urine samples will also be collected to test for blood sugar, cholesterol, proteins in urine and other conditions. A health report will be mailed to you six weeks following the health examination.

What are the benefits of participating in this survey?

All respondents will receive retail vouchers as a token of appreciation for their participation in the survey. Respondents who completed the Health Examination will receive additional retail vouchers.

Your participation will contribute greatly to the invaluable source of knowledge that can help to improve the health of many Singaporeans.

Insights from past surveys have led to more effective identification of national healthcare needs, helping to shape many of the programmes developed by MOH and HPB.

How do I participate in the survey?

Households selected for the NPHS will receive an invitation letter from MOH-HPB by mail.

Selected households are recommended to set up appointments with the interviewers from the National University of Singapore (IPS-Social Lab), who will conduct the face-to-face interviews with the household members regarding their health and well-being. Detailed instructions on the setting up of appointments will be included in the invitation letter that is mailed to selected households.
