WITH HEALTH PROMOTION BOARD S NEW EMOCUBE
Music is an integral part of many teenagers lives. The Health Promotion Board (HPB) has therefore developed an innovative EmoCube which serves as a repository of 200 popular songs to engage youth in its latest initiative to promote mental wellness among the young.
2 The EmoCube allows youth to plug their earphones into any of the 50 audio jacks on the cube and be serenaded with songs by popular artistes such as Gwen Stefani, The Black Eyed Peas, Mika and the 2009 Singapore Idol winner Sezairi Sezali and first runner-up, Sylvia Ratonel.
3 The songs on the EmoCube were specially selected to reflect the diverse range of emotions youth commonly face. Through these songs, youth can identify and relate with feelings they may experience as a result of life s many celebrations and challenges. This will encourage them to initiate conversations about their feelings with friends who can lend them a listening ear and provide them with peer support to manage their emotions.
4 Youth face a lot of pressure in today s fast-paced and demanding society. They often turn to their friends for help when confronted with these pressures. The EmoCube allows youth and their friends to connect with one another, listen to the same song at the same time and be comforted that they are not alone in going through life s ups and downs, said Ms Prema Govindan, Deputy Director, Mental Health, Youth Health Division, HPB.
5 The public can view the EmoCube at The Cathay from now to 22 January 2011. On 8 and 9 January 2011, members of public can also redeem a complimentary B.Positive CD sampler by flashing a special SMS or by checking into Foursquare. More details are available on www.facebook.com/breathe.sg. The EmoCube will also be roving to selected secondary schools in February 2011 as part of HPB s broader efforts to promote positive mental well-being among students.
6 In November 2010, HPB also launched the Emobot , a Facebook application that generates songs relevant to the emotions expressed by the user. Users key their feelings into the Emobot application and a song will be specially selected to match their feelings, together with a tip on staying positive. Users can then listen to the song and share it via their Facebook profiles. The Emobot can be accessed via
