More than 377,000 Singaporeans have embraced healthier habits through LumiHealth, a personalised programme designed by the Health Promotion Board (HPB) in conjunction with Apple since its launch in October 2020. After six years of programme success, the programme will conclude on 31 May 2026.
LumiHealth has delivered innovative ways of motivating Singaporeans to make sustained lifestyle changes for better health and well-being, spanning physical activity, sleep, nutrition and mental well-being. It has also deepened our understanding and knowledge of delivering effective digital experiences and nudges to help participants integrate healthier habits into their daily routines. Learnings from LumiHealth can be used to support future programmes by HPB.
Positive impact of LumiHealth
LumiHealth engaged users through a digital programme of structured quests to cultivate sustained healthy habits. Quests are multi-week adventures designed in collaboration with health experts to help users achieve their health goals.
Leveraging iPhone and Apple Watch capabilities such as heart rate, activity, sleep tracking, and integrating a journal experience, LumiHealth supported users in progressively building up their physical activity levels, as well as improving mental wellness and sleep hygiene.
Through participating in LumiHealth, users with low activity levels before joining the programme increased their weekly exercise minutes by about 54%. The increase for those with a higher body mass index (BMI) of 23 and above was 26%.
HPB also collaborated with Swiss Re to analyse aggregated and anonymised data to understand LumiHealth’s effectiveness, including the possible impacts of the programme on mortality2. If physical activity improvements were sustained until old age, the improvements could result in an estimated average mortality reduction of between 3% - 13% across different segments of LumiHealth participants, with the greatest impact seen in at-risk populations who were sedentary pre-programme, and those who were older. These findings indicate that well-designed preventive public health programmes that sustain positive behaviours can confer significant benefits.
Since May 2024, LumiHealth also engaged users with chronic conditions to help manage their health, through its hypertension and diabetes clinical quests, which saw over 6,300 participants.
The hypertension and diabetes quests were 12-week programmes that empowered users to adopt and sustain healthy behaviours relevant to their chronic conditions, through educational content and personalised challenges. The hypertension quest featured regular home blood pressure monitoring, medication adherence logging, steps challenges and lifestyle management tips that encouraged regular monitoring and follow-ups for measurable improvements in blood pressure control. The diabetes quest coached users to engage in post-meal walks to manage blood sugar elevation. It included a meal-logging process with feedback and improvement recommendations to encourage lower-sugar food choices, and helped users track pre- and post-HbA1c values to understand the impact of activity and diet on their blood sugar levels over three months.
LumiHealth also sought to drive behavioural change across multiple health domains. A multi-week quests feature helped users to work on specific health goals — from strength-building to achieving better sleep. Each quest provided users with personalised goals and daily tips to help them succeed. 86% of users have participated in the quests. This high engagement extended across different areas, with recent data demonstrating that 42.8% of users participated in nutrition-focused quests, 54.2% of users participated in sleep-focused quests, and 42.6% of users participated in mental well-being quests.
Phased approach to the conclusion of the programme
As the LumiHealth programme wraps up on 31 May 2026, participants will have sufficient time to complete their activities within the LumiHealth app.
To continue their health journey, LumiHealth users are encouraged to onboard HPB’s Healthy 365 app where they can similarly track their progress in physical activity, nutrition, mental wellness and sleep. Users may do so immediately, as they concurrently complete their LumiHealth activities.
LumiHealth users should take note of the following key dates:
Users can participate in Healthy 365 app immediately.
Users can continue to access the LumiHealth app and earn coins until 31 March 2026.
All coins must be redeemed and converted to eVouchers by 30 April 2026.
All eVouchers must be spent before they expire, or by 31 May 2026, whichever is earlier.
Continued support with the Healthy 365 app
HPB continues to support residents’ health and wellness journeys through its Healthy 365 app, Singapore’s national digital lifestyle platform supporting Healthier SG.
The free mobile app encourages users to stay active, eat healthier and sleep better, with a range of programmes and resources to support building healthy habits. Users are rewarded for meeting healthier lifestyle milestones, while enjoying a gamified approach to health and wellness.
The app enables users to set personal health goals and complete challenges, sign up for free workout classes and health workshops, log their meals and sleep duration, making it a one-stop platform for holistic health.
A latest feature of the Healthy 365 app, the Health and Wellness series, provides further personalised guidance and interactive content to motivate users to take small, achievable actions to improve their physical health and mental well-being.
Currently, about 885,000 residents or about one-quarter of our adult population use the Healthy 365 app every month to track their progress towards their activity goals, access healthy lifestyle activities, receive recommended resources and programmes, and earn rewards from completing tasks/challenges. As LumiHealth users transit to the Healthy 365 app, they will continue to be empowered to take charge of their well-being and maintain a healthier lifestyle.
