In the lead-up to World Mental Health Day (WMHD) in October, the Health Promotion Board (HPB) will be presenting a series of three original art installations between August and October. These positive art series which will pique your interest and put a smile on your face will convey the importance of positive thinking and positive actions.
2 The first in the series, entitled, Smile will be launched on 6 August, at the outdoor fountain area at VivoCity. The 20m (length) by 3m (height) inspirational art installation, made out of ice and resin, intersperses the words Smile and Frown . The word Frown will melt, whilst Smile , remains solid, an artistic interpretation of the often-quoted saying that unhappiness passes with time, but happiness and optimism always endures. A sneak peak at the behind-the-scenes video of the construction of this art installation is available at

3 Mental health is probably an understated aspect of health. It is quite normal to feel stressed when we face challenges. However, when we are optimistic, we will face these daily challenges with a positive frame of mind, be in greater control of our actions, and without feeling overwhelmed. We want to remind Singaporeans to practise positive thinking in their daily lives through these Positive Art Series , said Ms Sng Yan Ling, Deputy Director, Mental Health Education, HPB.
4 A contest will be held in conjunction with the Positive Art Series where contestants can submit the photos of themselves with the art installation as well as a caption to win attractive prizes. More details are available on
