Sodium Reduction Pledge
Join the pledge to reduce Singapore's sodium consumption.
What is the Sodium Reduction Pledge?

The Sodium Reduction Pledge is a collective commitment by the industry to take action towards reducing the sodium content in Singapore’s food supply and increasing the demand for lower-sodium products.
Why join the Pledge?
According to the National Nutrition Survey in 2022, 9 in 10 Singapore residents exceed the daily recommended sodium intake. In fact, Singapore residents consume 3,620 mg of sodium a day on average, almost double the World Health Organisation’s recommended daily intake of less than 2,000 mg (equivalent to 1 teaspoon of salt). This is a concern, as high sodium consumption is a key risk factor for hypertension, which in turn increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.
A key source of sodium intake is salt, sauces and seasonings added during cooking, largely from meals eaten outside the home. On average, the sodium levels in dishes have increased by 22% between 2010 and 2023. More needs to be done to reduce the sodium content in our foods. Join us now in pledging to build a healthier future for Singapore.
How can I join the Pledge?
This end-to-end pledge seeks to garner the commitment from industry players across the entire F&B supply chain, to do their part to reduce sodium in foods. Every contribution counts and there are various ways in which you can join the Sodium Reduction Pledge.
